Baptism preparation
Baptism is the start of the Christian life, and we want to support you in every way we can in this part of your child’s development. We therefore ask parents to come to one baptism preparation evening before the service (details of dates time and places are in the Baptism Pack). This evening will be led by some members of the Team, lay and/or ordained, and with video material and through discussion they will help explain the meaning of baptism and of the promises we make on our children’s behalf. We also encourage you to bring your children to church during this time, especially to the all-age or family services. You are very welcome not only to your parish church but to any of the churches in the Team area.

Choosing godparents
This is an opportunity to choose some significant adults who can be a personal, moral and spiritual support to your child as they grow.

Planning your Child’s
Baptism

Godparents need to be over sixteen, baptised and, preferably, confirmed members of a Christian church, who can say the promises. They undertake to pray for your child and help him or her grow up in the faith. Some people choose family members, others invite friends to fulfil this important function. We don’t ask to meet godparents before the baptism as this is often not easy to arrange. However, in the Baptism pack you will find a leaflet for you the parents, and also three leaflets for godparents – please pass these on to the people you have asked to be godparents. Godparents may also be interested to look at this website, which has all kinds of useful information on it about being a godparent: eGodparent
